Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Religious extremism poses a significant threat to societal stability, peace, and development, particularly in regions like Maiduguri Local Government, Borno State. Newspapers play a crucial role in addressing this challenge by reporting on incidents of extremism, analyzing its causes, and promoting dialogue and understanding among different religious groups. Through investigative journalism, editorials, and opinion pieces, newspapers inform the public about the dangers of religious extremism while advocating for tolerance and peaceful coexistence (Ibrahim & Adamu, 2023).
